Item Description
As generations of locals know - the area of land now occupied by the Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve has long been renowned for the quality and size of it’s black-tailed bucks. For the last decade the land has been managed to open even more habitat to both game and non-game species. This effort has resulted in a large resident population and seasonal influx of deer including numerous bucks with racks ranging from small to massive!
Fall deer hunting is only available by a limited draw or by way of a very small number of highly coveted permits sold at California Deer Association auctions. There are three hunting periods, the first two periods allow for just two day hunts. The most desirable period is the G1 hunt period as it typically coincides with both the first fall storms which drive new bucks into the Reserve and the early stages of the rut. A permit for this period also allows hunters a full 9 consecutive days of hunting on the Reserve!
