Item Description
Alekos Fassianos is one of Greece's most popular contemporary visual artists. He trained in music but majored in painting at the School of Fine Arts of the National Technical University of Athens - NTUA (1956-1960), Yannis Moralis serving as his chief instructor. Long associated with the Iolas Gallery in Paris, Fassianos further enjoyed a succession of international shows in Athens, Hamburg, Japan, Milan, Munich, Paris, Stockholm, and the United States. The National Gallery director Marina Lambraki-Plaka said Fassianos' work is characterized by a "two-way relationship between extreme innovation and Greek modernism, with elements of Theophilos, Tsarouchis, ancient art and modernism".
