Item Description

Gourd Rattle made by Jeanne Morningstar Kent, an enrolled member of the Nulhegan Band, Coosuk Abenaki of Vermont.  Rattle is beautifully decorated and signed, "Morningstar;" dated 2010.  Comes with certificate of authenticity from the artist.  Measures 9" long, 4" diameter.

Jeanne Morningstar Kent artist statement:  "I currently have work showing at both the Mt. Kearsage Indian Museum in Warner, NH, and the Mashantucket Pequot Indian Museum in  Ledyard, CT.  I have things on permanent display at the Chimney Point Museum in Crown Point, NY, the Institute for American  Indian Studies in Washington, CT, and the Roger Williams University Collection in RI.  I will be offering a talk to teachers on classroom sensitivity toward Native American students in  Stratford, CT, this month, offering a gourd workshop at the  Mashantucket Pequot Museum in CT and also will be on a panel of Native  artists who will be discussing our work at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum as part of the New England Native American Grants Program.  I  received a grant to help fund expenses for researching my upcoming book, "The Visual Language of Wabanaki Art," which is scheduled for release in  2014."
