Item Description
The auction is delighted to once again have two visual interpretations of the Buddha from the hands of artist Carole Leslie.
"What if Buddha was a Woman?" was done in acrylic, using vintage sewing pattern pieces on 1 1/2" deep canvas, wired and ready to hang. It belongs to a series called "What The Buddha Sewed". "Most of my Buddhas have a feminine look," says Carole, "this one even sports a little lipstick! The title was inspired by a question Rick Hanson asked at a weekend retreat I attended. An interesting thought for us to ponder."
Carole Leslie says that generally speaking it is an inclination toward simplicity that pushes her to try and integrate her practice and work, to paint Buddhas, to observe her process as she works. She gravitates toward mixed media, integrating script and words with images and colour.
