Item Description
"Though War speaks every language it never knows what to say to frogs." Thus begins Alice Walker's childrens' picture book Why War is Never a Good Idea.
Ms. Walker, best known for the Pulitzer Prize-wining novel The Colour Purple, has been contributing to the Shambhala Sun for 15 years going back to 1997 with a feature discussion entitled The Power of Loving Kindness. Editor-in-Chief Melvin McLeod described her as "a committed social activist who has had the courage to take on difficult and often unspoken issues." In 2009 Ms. Walker's "Suffering too Insignificant for the Majority to See" written on the occasion of the first-ever African-American Buddhist retreat appeared in the May issue of the Shambhala Sun. "Alice Walker describes the great toll, both personal and societal, of racism in America, and how Buddhism has helped her heal its wounds."
We hope you'll want to add this colourful book to your childrens' library.
