Item Description
Artist Malvika Raj was the subject of a recent SunSpace article, making news for bucking caste and custom and making waves in the Indian artworld by introducing a new subject to a centuries-old Hindu style of painting: scenes from the life of the Buddha. This particular painting entitled "Dhayana (Meditation)" is now here in North America and available to auction bidders.
Ms. Raj trained in the Madhubani painting technique, a form traditionally specific to female artists and the Mithila villages of India’s northeastern Bihar state. She is an artist, painter, fashion designer, and photographer. Three years after receiving her degree in fashion design, prompted by "soul, passion, and love of art", she left the industry behind to pursue her dream of applying color and brush to canvas.
Dimensions: 22"h. x 15.5"w.
Materials: Acrylic poster color on heavyweight handmade paper.
