Item Description
San Francisco Bay is part of the largest estuary on the west coast of North and South America, but has lost 90% of its tidal wetlands. State, federal and local officials are making great strides to remedy these impacts. The South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project is the largest tidal wetland restoration project on the West Coast. When complete, the restoration will convert thousands of former commercial salt ponds to a mix of tidal marsh, mudflat, managed pond, and other wetland habitats. John Bourgeois is a wetland ecologist and the Executive Project Manager for the project. Spend a half-day with John getting a personal tour of the project, seeing areas that have already been restored, are currently undergoing restoration, and those planned for the next phase of restoration. This is your chance for a front row seat for this ambitious 50-year restoration program.
Item Special Note
Half-day tour to be arranged at a mutually agreeable time, preferably on a weekend. Tour cannot occur within 72 hours of rain (due to Refuge restrictions and limited access to levees on the Bay¿s edge).
