Item Description
Since 2005, IndyKids has published a free, nationally distributed print newspaper with online editions that informs young people about current events and social justice issues. The newspaper showcases stories and perspectives of working people, people of color, migrant and marginalized communities along with in-depth articles on current events, politics, economics, climate change, civil rights and social justice issues. The IndyKids newspaper is published in print and online 5 times during the school year in September, November, January, March and May. In 2011, IndyKids launched the Kid Reporter Program to give young people ages 9-13 the opportunity, training and tools to comprehensively research and write about topics of social justice and current events under the tutelage of professional journalists and editors in the program's intensive training workshop series. In the workshops, students take part in every aspect of producing the nationally distributed newspaper - from choosing which stories to cover, researching and writing the content, contributing to the newspaper production and IndyKids website and finally, distributing the final product to a growing, national audience of their peers. Kid Reporter workshops take place throughout the school year. Please visit www.indykids.org for more information or email krpinfo@indykids.org.
Item Special Note
This gift certificate is good for one student to attend any one Kid Reporter workshop given by IndyKids through June, 2015.
