Item Description
Behind-the-Scenes Tour of American Museum of Natural History's Dinosaur Collections with the collections manager for Fossil Amphibian, Reptile, and Bird Collections in the Division of Paleontology.
Up to 6 people, 12 or older (NO EXCEPTIONS), tour must be taken within a year. They should contact me to schedule a mutually-agreeable time and date after 5pm on a weekday. The tour will be approximately an hour and will include the Vertebrate Paleontology Lab where specimens are cleaned for study and a dinosaur fossil collection storage area. There are a few rules that I will try to reiterate at the beginning:
1) Absolutely no touching of anything is allowed at any time on the tour unless offered.
2) Absolutely no wandering is permitted at any time. The group must stay together.
3) Photographs (no videos) are allowed only in the storage area and as long as they are not published without permission from our department.
4) Children must be under constant adult supervision by their guardians.
Item Special Note
We must be VERY clear about the age restriction – we’ve had people try to bring obviously too-young folks on the tours and we really don’t like leaving them at Security while everyone else takes the tour. And besides, no matter how much people may think their kid is into dinosaurs, this tour is directed at an adult audience and has been shown to bore young kids crazy.
