"Photographers and writers always scan the horizon for the next shot or idea. I carry my camera in the car so I can jump out and snap. I wish that I wrote down ideas for essays in a notebook in my orderly purse, but it is more about scribbling on the inside of a gum wrapper while the car is still moving. The days are never long enough for all I want to do.
I got hooked on photography in 1976 when my father-in-law won a 35 mm camera and gave it to me. I still have the first picture from that shoot that caught my attention: a red pair of mittens on a weathered picnic table."
