Item Description
Artist: Kamala Caton
Acrylic, collage, gold leaf and colored pencil, 2009. 24"x48"x2.75"
"What is that feeling when you're driving away from people and they recede on the plain till you see their specks dispersing? — it's the too-huge world vaulting us, and it's good-by. But we lean forward to the next crazy venture beneath the skies."
-Jack Kerouac, On the Road.
Item Special Note
An artist from the age of two, Kamala studied painting in Texas under Mary Ciani Saslow, in California under Warren Chang and in Italy under Paolo Barucchieri. Kamala now paints and resides in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains where inspiration comes from the peace and quiet of farmland stretched out through the wide valley of the Snoqualmie River.
Having mastered traditional portraiture and oil painting, Kamala prefers to work spontaneously with various media in uninhibited abstract expressionism utilizing collage, lithograph, oil pastels, acrylic paints, gold leafing, found objects and encaustics. Establishing paths and patterns is a reoccurring theme in her work.
