Item Special Note

Nathan Barnes received a BFA in painting and drawing from the University of Utah, where he was a Carmen Christensen Award recipient and a finalist for the Anne Cannon Scholarship. He received a MFA in studio art from Idaho State University. He has exhibited in solo, group, and juried exhibitions throughout the United States. His work has appeared in a variety of publications, most recently Studio Visit: Volume Twenty. In addition to an active studio practice, Nathan served as the Curator of Exhibitions for the Idaho Falls Arts Council from 2008-13. In this role, he organized and executed more than 30 exhibitions, including The Japanese Woodblock Print: An Extension of the Impermanent, which is currently touring Montana (2012-2014,) and the annual Idaho Falls National Exhibition, an open media juried exhibition of work from around the country.

He has been an Instructor of Art for the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, and Plymouth Arts Council in Wisconsin, and an Adjunct Professor of Art for the College of Southern Idaho. In 2011, with the help of a VSA Idaho grant, he spent two months as a visiting artist in the special needs classroom at Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls, where he developed an art curriculum that emphasized experience over product. In the spring of 2013, he was awarded a “Quickfunds” grant from the Idaho Commission on the Arts, in support of his studio practice.

Nathan currently serves as gallery coordinator for The Gallery at the Kenneth J Minnaert Center for the Arts on the campus of the South Puget Sound Community College.
