Item Description
You've seem then in the movies, the handcar. Four people on a handcar going down the tracks. But did you know the name of the handcar is a Velocipede? Velocipede means swift-footed in French and on this adventure you will find out just how swift-footed we are talking about.
For a video that shows the Velocipede in action, click HERE.
Your adventure begins in East Ely where we load up the Velocipede and take it to Keystone seven miles away. Why might you ask? Well gravity is the answer. Keystone is 324 feet higher than East Ely and it is a lot easier to operate a Velocipede going downhill than up. Why? Because going uphill you are the Velocipede's power source! But don't worry there are a few uphill sections where you will get to try out your muscles!
Participants of this adventure must be 12 years old and up and in good physical shape (the Velocipede weighs about 1,600 pounds fully loaded.)
