Item Description
Bettencourt is a mother of two, fitness competitor, artist, and student. She began to lose her sight in her early 30s from a degenerative eye disease known as Retinitis Pigmentosa. Although the disease has left her blind, the hardships she experienced have not prevented her from being an advocate for those with disabilities, motivational speaker, artist and soon to be teacher. Through her artwork she conveys her perception and insight of the world around her.
When painting my dragon egg, I did my best to convey the world around me and also put it into words. The following writing relays just that and was my inspiration for the design of the egg:
Our World
“We grasp the world like it is ours, in the process we lose sight of all what we thought we knew of ourselves. Disillusioned by the pretentious nature of society, continuously defining our destiny.
Through strength and faith insight is gained as our Devine purpose shines on the horizon. Shining with overwhelming luminosity that the smallest details are obscured and enlightenment found. A never ending journey of insight and beauty.” ~ Tracy Bettencourt
