Item Description

Medium: Wood Burned and acrylic washes

Artist: Carol Leavy

Artist Vision: Nature nurtures our spirit, and music nurtures our souls. I have tried to represent the Quad City Symphony, its history, its collaborations, and its youth education on the cello. Music surrounds us every day, through the song of a bird, the radio, or the performance of a symphony. Music has the ability to touch our spirits, reach our souls and bring us to the realization that there is something greater than the individual. The cello design is wood burned, then painted with acrylic washes.

Item Special Note

Artist Biography: Carol Leavy began her journey into art twenty-two years ago with a wooden snowman. She has no formal art background and has progressed through a series of trial, error, and educational seminars. Art has helped her develop an "I can do that" attitude and has opened many doors for her from the door to her own creativity and confidence to the door of the White House as a holiday decorator. Leavy's journey began with painting objects in acrylics and has expanded to include woodcarving and pyrography. Her creativity stems from approaching things with a mind open to all possibilities and knowing that even failure can be a success. She tells people: "You should try everything. It might be what you were meant to do, but you'll never know unless you try."
