About the artist

Josef Albers (1886-1976) is best known for his work as an abstract painter and printmaker who formed the basis for the color theory of chromatic interactions. He was a great influence on American artists, as well as an important educator. He is best known for the works that make up his Homage to the Square series created between 1950 and 1975. Albers’ work is included in major museums throughout the world. His exhibition history includes shows at the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, as well as museums and galleries around the world. He was the chairman of the art department at Yale University School of Art.
