Don't miss your chance to experience a Touch of Real Tuscany!

Panorama of Mugello

front entrance with tower

Set in the historic centre of San Piero A Sieve, La Felicina is a home away from home. A charming, family-style 10-guestroom bed and breakfast, La Felicina is owned by the Ducci family, who have lived there for more than a century.

Perhaps it’s because La Felicina has always been a much-loved home. Or perhaps it's because in Tuscany, they're of the opinion that it’s nicer to stay in a home than a hotel. But the true value of a stay owes more to the atmosphere you feel than anything else. La Felicina warmly invites you to a Touch of Real Tuscany, where you will experience authentic Tuscan living, while creating memories to last a lifetime.

5) 1-Night Stay at the Aman Venice with a Spectacular Private Dining Experience
Historic luxury hotel Aman Canal Grande Venice got the holy grail of celebrity endorsements when George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin held their wedding there. Its secluded setting, with a private jetty entrance and a peaceful garden (a rarity in Venice) makes 16th-century former Palazzo Papadopoli a natural choice for loved-up celebrities. But the lavish Rococo rooms – with silk-draped walls, gilded stucco ceilings and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo frescoes – canal views and spot-on service turn any romantic minibreak into a fairy-tale.

Here's a special letter from Carlo Ducci, owner of La Felicina and features director Vogue Italia and Casa Vogue:

2 This is more...part one

Dear Drama League Friend,

"This is more a home than a hotel".

This is how our clients frequently describe La Felicina. Equally frequently, those clients become friends. And they come back to see us, sometimes just to say hello.

Perhaps it’s because my family, the Duccis, has lived here for more than a century. Perhaps because we’re used to meeting all kinds of people on a daily basis and that makes us both friendly and respectful of others. Perhaps because a number of the Ducci family live here permanently, we eat and drink the same things as our guests. Perhaps because friends come to visit us from all over the world and they often stay. Perhaps because Laura, Cristina and all the staff at La Felicina are just as efficient as they’re bright and merry. Or perhaps it’s because life in a village of 3000 souls such as Scarperia-San Piero a Sieve is made up of human relations and laughter, respect and support. Perhaps because the simple everyday life of Tuscany, the genuine Tuscany you find in our area, Mugello, is still wonderfully authentic and extremely pleasant. As a journalist living in Milan, I recognise this value.

3 This is more...part twoPeople come to La Felicina and they stay. You may find yourself preparing a meal with Bruno, my father, or with Amalia, a dear friend who’s also a great cook, or with Aunt Laura, who drops by almost every weekend. We could describe it as an experience of everyday Italian life.

Our ten guestrooms are simple but very comfortable, with everything you need. Each room has different furnishings because over the years the Ducci family has fallen in love with different styles, furniture, armchairs, sofas. Not forgetting toys, radios, airplanes. Or cars, real or models. In fact there’s collections galore in the rooms on the ground floor and some pieces are in the guestrooms.

The effect is that of a kind of fascinating Wunderkammer, which lays no claim to being a museum but is composed of strange, original “things”, often things built or restored by MY DAD Bruno, our skilled, stubborn “inventor”. Bruno built the two aeroplanes (Poppy and Phoenix) which he flew for years and are now parked in the garden. He has his own model-making workshop in the lobby, where he creates the little gems that are then added to the guestrooms.

Nostalgia doesn’t cross our threshold: we look to the future. In 2016 we’ll have our own La Felicina Academy, open to anyone who believes in sharing skills and knowledge. We’ll have garden concerts and even more exhibitions. We’re also planning a Ted Talk. Of course, we are wide open to other ideas. Not for nothing La Felicina is called a "we place", and is possibly the first of its kind in Europe.

La Felicina is the perfect base for activities in Mugello. Visit castles, villas and museums to walk in the footsteps of the powerful Medici family, who originally came from Mugello as did Giotto, Fra Angelico and Giovanni della Casa. Or see and learn about agricultural traditions that are still very much alive here. What about the thrill of zooming around the Mugello racetrack, or a more leisurely ride in a vintage car? From walks through the woods and on the paths of the Via degli Dei (Road of the Gods) to painting courses with local artists. From swimming in Lake Bilancino or in the mountain streams of the Apennines to following a trail on a mountain-bike or horseback. A simple yet highly enjoyable tailor-made stay.

Mugello is an authentic land, made more for travellers and not a lot for tourists, and therefore real, simple and true. Only 30 minutes from Santa Maria Novella railway station in Florence, on our little local train. All the other beautiful Tuscan towns are just few hours drive from Mugello.

La Felicina has always been a much-loved home and as a frequent traveller myself, I realise that it’s nicer to stay in a home than a hotel, an opinion that an increasing number of people share. This is one of the things that distinguishes a traveller from a tourist. Because in the third millennium the true value of a stay owes more to the atmosphere you feel than a hotel’s category or stars.

The fact is that this is a warm invitation to a Touch of Real Tuscany which is sure to stay in your memories. And, together, we’ll help the Drama League.

Yours sincerely,

Carlo Ducci
