Item Description
Enjoy a week at Courtyard House, located in the heart of The Cotswolds in the English countryside, within pleasant walking distance of everything Blockley Village has to offer. This 200-year-old stone house elegantly combines historic charm with such modern conveniences as a brand new bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, and central heating. The house’s large sitting room has a ten-foot high beamed ceiling, and the dining area is furnished with antique pine furniture. A second sitting area provides a great place to read a book around the open fireplace. French doors and large windows look out onto the charming and lively garden, newly redesigned and furnished for outdoor seating and dining. From there you have a view of the centuries-old Parish Church tower whose historic bells toll every half hour.
Each of the two bedrooms upstairs has a private bath. The upstairs windows afford a lovely view of the tiled rooftops of Blockley Village, whose houses are built on a series of terraces that step down the hillside to a stream at the bottom. This terracing lends an ever-so-slight European flair to the place, as little alleyways and steps disappear between closely knit houses.
At the far end of the village, High Street becomes a footpath leading into the woods, so through-traffic is routed around the village center. As a result, Blockley is a quiet place, and it’s a living village—not overrun with antique and gift shops. There’s The Grocery and Post Office, the Crown Inn Pub, and a new gourmet food shop across the street from the cottage, which sells fine cheeses from across Europe, wines, coffees and other gourmet foods, as well as fabulous breakfast pastries.
