Item Description
Spend four nights in a beautifully restored 1860s one-room schoolhouse in Putney, Vermont.
This is a magical space, with exposed brick, a cathedral ceiling, and lots of glass, recently renovated with hardwood floors, granite counters, and a marble bathroom. It has radiant heat in the floor, a Viking stove for cooking, a dishwasher, washer and dryer, and a well equipped kitchen. It has a queen-size bed in the bedroom and a queen-size pull-out couch in the living room.
Hiking, road and mountain biking, cross country skiing, dirt roads and trails for walking, a swimming hole, apple and blueberry orchards are all in close proximity. Directly out the back door are miles of trails and many acres of agricultural land. In good weather, guests have access to a clay tennis court and swimming pond with dock a few miles away. The owners also groom ten miles of cross-country ski trails for classic skiing on their property a few miles away. Guests are welcome to use the trails, conditions permitting.
Guests should note that the schoolhouse is located right on a road -- as schoolhouses generally were! Behind you are miles of trails, fields, and forest, but you will occasionally hear cars and see headlights. The bedroom is at the back of the building, removed from the road, and is both quiet and private.
The schoolhouse has a radio and a wireless Sonos sound system that allows music to be played from a MP3 device.
There is a wood stove, but it may only be used by those with significant experience using one.
