Item Description
The Metropolitan Museum’s Department of Ancient Near Eastern Art boasts a superb collection of more than 7,000 works ranging in date from 8000 B.C (the Neolithic period) to the Arab conquests and rise of Islam beginning in 651 A.D. and encompassing a geographical area that includes ancient Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, the eastern Mediterranean coast and south Arabia. The objects on display in these galleries represent some of the most seminal stages of civilization, such as first writing, first cities, and first empires.
Met curator Kim Benzel will guide your group of up to four through this tantalizing world and its extraordinary contributions during a two-hour private tour of the Ancient Near East galleries, followed by lunch in the Met’s Members Dining Room, on a mutually arranged date during the course of 2016.
