Item Description
Title: Boy at Ladakhi Festival with Chips
Description: Throughout the course, I found myself often trying to depict the globalization and westernization of all of the communities we encountered. This photo epitomizes this, I think. The western concept of processed potato chips hangs out of this kid's mouth, and reminds us that romanticized "exotic" cultures do not exist in bubbles. In fact, many smaller cultures may cease to exist altogether as a result of moving to larger population centers and the spread of western culture.
Location: Ladakh, India
Item Special Note
About the Photographer: "I've been trying to improve as a photographer since high school, and aim to continue improving until I die. In fact, I've made improving as a photographer one of the central goals of my Quest education. A very significant portion of that growth happened in the weeks I spent in the Visual Anthropology course, and I am forever grateful for it. I hope to make photography a part of my career in some capacity, and if not, I will always keep it in my life."
