Item Description
This is a thing of beauty, and a little treasure, a small "porcelain painting" of a the immaculate conception-probably inpsired by The Immaculate Conception of the Venerable Ones or 'Soult' by Bartolome Esteban Murillo - in a gilt carved wood reticulated frame
It is unsigned, no other marks found; a metal loop attached to the back to hang on the wall. Size, see pictures with ruler measures.
We have looked at this piece with a loupe and cannot determine if it is completely handpainted or if a transfer was used for part of the image.
We are guessing that the piece was a souvenir purchase from a Grand Tour in the late 1800s, and that it likely came from Dresden, Germany or possibly somewhere in Italy.
This piece could be a marvelous and unforgettable gift for the holidays or a wedding or christening.
