Fund-a-Need: Innovation Playspaces And Add Your Name to the Honor Wall!

Innovation, creativity, and Design Thinking are critical skills for the 21st Century. Design Thinking is a much sought after approach in the business world and is gaining nationwide traction in K-12 schools. It promotes innovation, collaboration, empathy, creativity, prototyping, and user-tested solutions to help students experience and think about the world differently. It helps develop empathy to find creative solutions to everyday problems and challenge the way people approach all aspects of life.

This year's Fund-a-Need will help bring the Design Thinking model developed at Stanford University's D school to Baywood. In particular, it will fund three critical components:

Building Baywood's new Dream Lab: This Fund-a-Need will allow us to convert the old computer lab into Baywoods' very own Dream Lab an innovation and Design Thinking space stocked with items which could include (but not necessarily be limited to) a robotics station, 3D design software, legos, and crafting materials. This dynamic new lab space will enable our kids to create, experiment, and grow!

Expanding the Blue Block Wall: You may already know the Blue Blocks in the common Baywood play space, and the limitless opportunities it provides for creative, innovative play. This Fund-a-Need will let us purchase additional blocks enough to build an entire wall greatly expanding the benefits our kids receive.

Funding next years Change Maker, Dr. Jane Goodall: Building on the success of this year's Ben Franklin Change Maker, Baywood is excited to reveal Dr. Goodall as next year's Change Maker. Dr. Goodall's pioneering 4-step model is designed to help young people identify local community needs, prioritize their findings, and implement a service campaign to make a difference in the issues they are most passionate about.

Add Your Name to the Honor Wall!

For every Fund-a-Need contribution of $250 or more, you will get a dedication line on the Honor Wall in the Dream Lab. Use this dedication to recognize your child or family or use it to pay tribute to someone who has inspired you - a teacher, relative, or real life hero!

This is our most ambitious Fund-a-Need ever, and every dollar counts. We are so excited about this important addition to the Baywood educational experience and expect it to be a lasting legacy from the 2016-2017 school year.
