Item Description

This is a wonderful selection of six interesting and affordable wines.

A great value!

Montepeloso A Quo 2010, Suvereto, Tuscany, Italy

Wine Advocate 92:

The 2010 A Quo is insanely beautiful. It boasts gorgeous, well-delineated aromatics and tons of energy. The vibrancy of the fruit is impossible not to admire. Red plums, raspberries, berries and graphite give the wine a cool intensity and minerality that are striking. Layers of fruit build to the vinous yet structured finish. This is a great wine that captures the full personality of the 2010 vintage in Tuscany. It also happens to be a steal. In 2010 the blend is 30% Montepulciano, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese, 10% Marselan and 10% Alicante Bouschet. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.

Chateau de Beaucastel Coudoulet de Beaucastel Cotes du Rhone 2005, Southern Rhône, France

Wine Advocate 91:

The 2005 Beaucastel Coudoulet Cotes du Rhone is another outstanding example made essentially across the border from Chateauneuf du Pape. Notes of tapenade, licorice, smoked herbs, and meat juices interwoven with black cherry and darker fruits are followed by an expansive, broadly flavored, full-bodied wine with no hard edges, gorgeous fruit purity, and a long, spicy, heady finish. This is almost the bottled essence of Provence. Drink it over the next decade or more.

Ramos Pinto Collection 2007, Douro, Portugal

Wine Advocate 90:

Continuing the winery’s tradition of blending quintas, this is a vineyard blend from the winery’s Quinta do Bom Retiro vineyards and its Douro Superior property, Quinta de Ervamoira. It is a grape blend of Touriga Nacional (30%), Touriga Franca (30%) and a field blend for the rest. This is a very nice performance, elegant and refined, but with a very obvious backbone. More intense, deeper and lusher than the regular Tinto.

Condado de Haza Ribera Del Duero 2006, Castilla León, Spain

Vinous 92:

Bright ruby. Vivid raspberry, blackberry, anise and floral scents are fresh and pure. Juicy dark berry flavors are complemented by succulent herbs and dark chocolate, becoming sweeter with air. Leaves strong floral pastille and berry liqueur notes behind, finishing with excellent cut and precision. Very nicely focused wine.

Noemía de Patagonia J Alberto 2012, Patagonia, Argentina

Wine Advocate 93:

The 2012 J. Alberto is a masculine Malbec with a dash of Merlot from a vineyard in Mainque that was planted in 1955. The wine is very aromatic and showy, with a complex nose of violets, blueberries, plums, maraschino cherries and hints of licorice, Chinese ink and raw meat. The palate shows superb balance, ultra-sleek tannins, pungent flavors of blue fruit and great acidity. This wine shows what can be done in Rio Negro. Bravo! Drink 2015-2022.

Penley Estate Phoenix 2015, Coonawarra, Australia

Wine Advocate 91+:

Deep garnet-purple in color, 2015 Phoenix Cabernet Sauvignon is redolent of crème de cassis, licorice and dark chocolate with hints of dried mint, earth and tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the palate with generous black fruit and menthol flavors. Structured with a firm backbone, it finishes with great length. Drink 2017-2030.
