Item Description
Straight from Russia, these dolls are beautifully painted in the "Semenovo" folk pattern -- a world famous design, known as "Visit card of Russia." Measures 9" tall and has 9 dolls.
A matryoshka doll, also known as a Russian nesting doll, stacking dolls, or Russian doll, is a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside another. The word matryoshka is based on the Russian name of Matryona (or Matryosha), which was one of the most popular female names of 19th century Russia, emphasizing the fact that this doll represents all Russian women. At a deeper level, for many, this name came to symbolize motherhood, fertility, and warm care, as at the root of the name Matryona, lies the Latin word “mater,” or mother.
