Here is a brief story about Casco Bay Creamery:
“Casco Bay Butter (now known as Casco Bay Creamery) makes all natural artisan butters made from cream sourced from family-owned dairy farms. Alicia and Jennell started Casco Bay Butter in 2012, after their friend Sue gave them a gift of some homemade bacon blue cheese butter. It was so good, they put it on potatoes, turkey burgers, and then suddenly, they were coming up with meals centered around the bacon blue cheese compound butter. This inspired them to start making all kinds of butter using various methods and techniques, going through their spice cabinet and creating all kinds of different flavors. They quickly had way more butter than two people could consume, so they started giving it away. Jennell brought it to work where a friend said, "Why you don’t sell it at a farmers market?" And so with that and a Kitchen Aid mixer, they started Casco Bay Butter in a church kitchen in Portland. They started selling at the Kennebunk Farmers Market, and right away, with the help of Alicia’s brother Andrew, they started acquiring wholesale accounts.
In 2014, they opened a production space in Scarborough. You can now find Casco Bay Creamery butter in Hannaford, Whole Foods, local markets, small regional grocery stores, specialty food stores, and online. They were honored to be named one of the Best of a New England for Yankee Magazine in 2016, Outstanding New Business for the town of Scarborough in 2015, and as an Editor’s Choice for Best of Maine 2014 by Downeast Magazine. Casco Bay Creamery is also excited to be launching a whipped cream cheese in Hannaford stores in August 2018.
Alicia and Jennell knew this adventure was bigger than they could have imagined. Both Andrew and Sue have been instrumental from the start, and the four of us are proud to be on this journey together. We are excited to see what comes next for Casco Bay Creamery. Thank you for taking this journey with us as well!”
