About the Artist
Wendy Summers, the owner of Summer Hollow Pottery, makes handmade pottery. She grew up in southern Maryland's Chesapeake Bay region. Having come from a family with a strong matriarchal tradition of handcrafting, it was no surprise when Wendy entered a well-known New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred to study sculpture and art. It was as a sculpting student that Wendy Summers discovered her passion for making pottery. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Alfred University, Wendy moved to West Virginia to pursue her graduate study in ceramics at West Virginia University, and as she put it, learn how to throw pots. At West Virginia University she concentrated on developing her throwing, firing, and glazing techniques.
