Item Description
The intriguing artistic design of the mountain lion/cougar figure on this pair of sterling silver earrings is based on a petroglyph from the 12th or 13th century, such as the one pictured here that is located in the Petrified Forest National Park in northeastern Arizona. The indigenous Pueblo people revered the mountian lion for its hunting ability, and the petroglyph artist clearly appreciated the power of the lion's claws detailed in the original work. At the top of these triangular flat earrings is a sun design. Both images are etched or engraved in the silver. These vintage earrings have no makers mark.
Details: Excellent vintage condition. Measure 2" tall x 1 1/2" at the widest point.
