Item Description
Racing for ALS - Dave’s Race Experience
You are bidding on a family racing experience with the team from Racing with ALS at the Virginia International Raceway on one day between June 30-July 1, 2023.
The racing package includes:
1. Racing for ALS swag pack (T-shirt(s), Yeti cup, RFALS stickers, toboggan, etc.)
2. Free Parade Laps session (Allows you to take your passenger car on the track at highway speeds, no passing, etc.) But is a lot of fun.
3. Hot laps with the family in a car with a professional driver, this is age dependent however, as the track requires to be at least 16 years of age to participate.
4. A tour of the race hauler and Racing for ALS race car.
5. Dinner for the family with the racers at the end of the first day. The SCCA smokes meat all day, so this is an amazing meal!!
Mission of Racing for ALS
Racing for ALS utilizes high-performance driving events to build ALS awareness and to battle ALS head-on with a Triple Target Funding model that supports focused pharma research, no placebo clinical trials, and individual ALS patients in need.
Dave’s Story
In October of 2017, our family’s life changed forever with David’s ALS diagnosis. David was a normal, healthy guy in his late 40’s, working hard and raising two wonderful kids. Then, out of the blue, the doctors told him, “It’s ALS…Average life expectancy 2-5 years, it is incurable and we don’t know how or where it will manifest itself…It’s different for everyone.”
Doctors further revealed that the medical community knew as much about ALS in 2017 as it knew about cancer 100 years ago!?! That is just not okay for a disease that can impact anyone, anytime, regardless of age or gender… We have to find a cure!!! Our Triple Target Funding initiative aims to do just that.
Item Special Note
Dates are limited to June 30-July 1, 2023
This experience will take place at the Virginia International Raceway (commonly known as "VIR") which is a race track located in Alton, Virginia, near the North Carolina/Virginia border around Danville.
Hot Lap Requirements
- Advanced only for passengers that are not other advanced drivers/instructors. An intermediate group may take other advanced drivers or instructors along with them for educational purposes.
- All non-driver passengers must have a wristband indicating they have signed both the VIR waiver as well as the Racing for ALS waivers.
- Hot laps required parental sign-off under 18 but still must be 16.
- Paced laps have an age limit, but it’s pretty low. I’ll validate what it is.
