Artist: Rich Benson
Captain Rich Benson's unique hand carved marine life sculptures are inspired by his love for Fishing and the Ocean which has translated into his incredible technique and has captured the attention of marine art collectors worldwide. He began carving and sculpting whales, sharks and fish in the early 1980's.
The learning curve was long, as he is entirely self taught. All of his carvings are from solid sugar pine, or basswood and are finished with a variety of media including acrylics, milk paint and epoxies.
He has been a Salt Water Fly Fishing and Light Tackle Guide in the Chatham area since 1990 with a Coast Guard Masters License for almost 30 years. Rich was one of the early pioneers of Fly Fishing for Stripers and Bluefish on the Beautiful Monomoy Flats and Offshore Waters of Chatham for Bluefin Tuna.
