Item Description

Perfect Pairings! 4 Wines for 4 Courses: Rose, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon

These artfully crafted and versatile wines are perfect for pairing with a variety of dishes. Start with a Rose of Zinfandel and a spread of your favorite cheeses. Then enjoy this Chardonnay with a cauliflower gratin served alongside duck confit and a glass of Syrah. I know... double fisting. You can do it. Then finish with the Cabernet Sauvignon and a serving of beef bourgignon or a veggie stew. Comforting winter food. Or, if you're full, just have the Cab for "desert" while solving the world's problems with your besties.

Onward Wines, 2022 Rose of Zinfandel - Art Label Series, Mendocino - 1 Bottle

Onward Wines are single-vineyard, site-driven wines from vineyard sites that are very special to me. I am a true believer in personal connection and there is a story behind each vineyard site and how it came to be part of my portfolio. In these stories, you will learn more about the people behind these vineyards. I liken my connection to these vineyards to that of one’s favorite shirt or coffee mug or chair. Like a well-worn fabric or a slightly chipped mug that may have initially caught my eye for its beauty, but over the years has won my heart because it just feels right. When it comes to vineyards this happens too, because of a combination of my connection with the vines themselves and my connection with those that tend them. For me, the grower's hands are most definitely part of the terroir.

My style is about letting the vines speak. They are the art, I am the canvas, and my job is to give them a chance to share their beauty in each and every vintage. My decisions are driven by the vineyard and the vintage, my cellar practices are to uphold the truths I find in the vineyard. To this end, I pick early looking for a balance of flavors at lower ripeness, as I find this is when each vineyard is in its most unique expression of self.

Groth Vineyards and Winery 2022 Estate Chardonnay, Hillview Vineyard, Napa Valley - 1 Bottle

Groth 2022 Estate Chardonnay captures the quintessential characteristics of its varietal and provenance. Inviting aromas of crème brûlée, green apple, ripe cantaloupe and apricot jam greet the nose with an underlay of orange blossom, lychee and baking spice. The palate is rich and luxurious with an opulent surge of grilled peach and yellow plum kept in focus by a lift of orange zest acidity, finishing long with a toasted brioche echo.

Varietal: Chardonnay

Appellation: Napa Valley

South of Yountville, tucked alongside the foothills of the Mayacamas in the Oak Knoll District, our Hillview Estate benefits from the cooling breezes of the San Pablo Bay. We purchased the 44-acre site in 1982 in search of an excellent Merlot source to blend with our Cabernets. Napa Valley’s sub-appellations did not yet exist back then, so we had no concern about whether the property fell within Oakville limits; we simply sought out the best Merlot vineyard we could find.

In 1996, our second winemaker, Michael Weis, saw that the site’s micro-climate and diverse soil types were ideal for growing world-class Chardonnay, so we strategically replanted 26 acres to the variety, reserving approximately 12 acres of our finest Merlot vines.

PlumpJack Winery 2021 Syrah, Napa Valley - 1 Bottle

The 2021 PlumpJack Syrah is not a shy wine. The nose boasts aromatics of raspberry, cherry, blueberry, boysenberry, and plum. Intermingling with the fruit are the classic cool-climate Syrah notes—white pepper, dried herb, and smoked meats. Layered within these flavors is a unique green peppercorn element, deriving from whole-cluster fermented Syrah. The palate is packed with similar flavors and delivers a silky texture with great weight and concentration, firm tannin, and an enduring finish. This wine is simply delicious.

In 1995, Gavin Newsom and Gordon Getty stumbled upon a magical piece of land in the heart of Oakville, Napa Valley. Inspired by one of Shakespeare’s most memorable characters, Sir John “PlumpJack” Falstaff, whose fun-loving and down-to-earth disposition was only rivaled by his fierce loyalty to Prince Henry V, with whom he shares more than a few goblets of sack (wine) at the local tavern. We pay allegiance to our world-class vineyard by crafting high-quality wines that honor the land, and we celebrate the convivial spirit of our namesake with their inviting, approachable style.
