Peaceful scene of a fisherman’s boat, attributed to Richard Lever, though not signed. Oil on board, in a gold-colored varnished wood frame. 19x16 inches.
Hayley Lever (American, 1876-1958) was born in 1876 in Adelaide, South Australia, settling in the USA in 1911. He is best known as a Post-Impressionist of marine scenes. Deeply influenced by Vincent van Gogh, Lever combined Impressionist brushwork, a palette of vivid colors, and the defined lines of Realism. He received many awards and critical acclaim during his lifetime, and he is represented in major American museums.
