Item Description
Mountain Ram and Luster on Porcelain Plate Artist: Karen Grubaugh of Art on Porcelain Original art hand painted from photo taken by artist at the Denver Zoo. This piece of original porcelain art, was painted with a process first used in China more than 2,000 years ago. The artist meticulously painted the design and fired it to about 1400 degrees. The blue luster on the background is an equally ancient technique. Since its creation in 9th century Baghdad, the art of luster was a closely guarded secret. Not until the 18th century was the formula discovered by Meissen artists. Treasured above all art mediums by the Crown Heads of Europe as few as six pieces out of every 100 created would be considered acceptable. Few artisans mastered the difficult medium then and today there are few luster artists world wide. It is the artist's hope that this will become your family's heirloom. [Dishwasher safe]
