Item Description
Ken Ashton (http://civilianartprojects.com/artists/ashton/ashton2.html) graduated from James Madison University with a BFA in 1986. Since that time he has followed a dual career in the museum field at the Corcoran Gallery of Art as Museum Specialist in Works of Art on Paper while working as a fine art photographer. He has spent over a decade pursuing “Megalopolis”-- a project to photograph not just the neighborhoods of Washington, DC, but other communities in the Northeastern corridor to Boston. The project, now entering its second decade, is an historic visual document marking the passing of time and place in America as witnessed in the travels of one man. Ashton who frequently travels in the US and abroad with art from the Corcoran Collection is also a highly trained cyclist. His art work has been widely exhibited including at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington Center for Photography, Museum of Contemporary Art (DC), Anacostia Museum of the Smithsonian Institution, Arlington Arts Center, Charlottesville's Second Street Gallery and Longwood Center for the Arts in Farmville, VA.
