When my engine started shuddering, I checked Yelp for nearby repairs. I put in a request on their website and got an appointment the next morning. Hoffmaster's is a bit of a hidden gem, there's a sign on Tech Road ,but you have to go around to the lower level on the left.
Although I had chosen partly on the basis of proximity, they combined the road test with dropping me at home, about a mile away.
My guess about a misfiring cylinder was correct, but the cause was unusual. Seems a mouse had made a nest on my warm engine and gnawed through the wires!
So they picked me up a few hours later, all done. Quick, right, and reasonably priced. I really felt like I was treated like a person rather than a source of funds. They will be getting all my future automotive work. Five shiny chrome stars

Steve and his guys are the best! Unfortunately my 2016 Suburban needed a transmission and a compressor for the rear shocks. Clearly not what I wanted to hear at 60K miles. However, they had me back on the road in one week and everything is perfect. They were the third shop that had looked at the problem, but the only one that provided a proper diagnosis. I'm going to bring all of my vehicles to them in the future. Very knowledgable and fair pricing! What more can you ask?

Haven't had the chance to visit for a full job yet, but did receive a call today from the GM of the shop (I'm bad with names). We discussed my review and why I felt that way, and with the added context I definitely understood where he was coming from. He showed respect and accountability for calling me back and having that discussion, so I will gladly visit in the future. I hope when I come in next time I can bump this to 5 stars.

A shop that puts customers first. I wound up here from a quick google search, since I was near the MVA. The prior owner of the vehicle I was driving had decided to snap the head of the license plate bolt off to take off the license plate, resulting in a bolt shaft that needed to be drilled out. I wound up coming here, and was greeted by the owner of the shop, Steve, with a friendly face and a willingness to help. He quickly took care of the issue, and was incredibly professional throughout the whole process. While he was working, I went inside and had a great conversation with Mike about other issues with the vehicle. I asked for a quote to have front struts done on the car, and he gave a great price.

TLDR: Friendly people, good prices, fair labor rates, 10/10.

Short update - Shortly after the oil and transmission fluid change (about a week), my car decided to start having issues suddenly - check engine light on and all. It was also driving oddly, which is a huge problem as I commute from Silver Spring to Baltimore daily. We called them and they said they would give it a look. The diagnostics said it was an issue with an ignition coil - two of them in fact. I hadn't planned to be back at the shop so soon and was scared both for cost and time - as this is our only vehicle at the moment. I even told them so much on the phone.

They had the coils replaced within a few hours for under $500. I cannot believe it! I am definitely happy with the service. They also let me keep the broken ignition coil... which is in two pieces (but shouldn't be).

These guys are the best. Their prices are reasonable, they get the work done fast, and they are honest about what needs to be done. As a woman, I really appreciate that, as I've been to several other auto shops who clearly are just trying to take advantage of me.

I cant speak to the quality of their actual repairs, but do not take your car here for your initial safety inspection if you bought a car out of state or recently moved to Maryland. While some of the issues they flagged with my car were legitimate, others were dishonest. They went out of their way to identify tons of "defects", many of which were either cosmetic, and not required by the state of Maryland, or "defects" that they simply lied about in order to then jack up the quote to repair my vehicle. What a racket.

My battery was rundown by my hazard lights running all night. Why they were turned on is too long a story. In any event I took the battery to Hoffmaster's and asked them to charge it up. They had it fully charged in 4 hours and would not take a penny from me for the service. I have been around for 77 years and can say with confidence that this type of friendly help is not seen very often these days.

A great shop. Work is done properly, skilled technicians, extremely honest and ethical. Mike keeps things running smoothly. My go to place for auto maintenance.
