Sophia Pichinos
March 21, 1950 - February 3, 2015
Sophia Pichinos studied fine art and art education at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she received her BFA, the University of Illinois at Chicago receiving her degree in Bio-communication Arts/medical art and an MFA from Vermont College in painting and drawing. Sophia taught Art Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. At Maine South, she developed curriculum that connected artist issues, art history, culture and literacy in art, while exploring traditional and non-traditional processes, materials and techniques.
Ms. Pichinos was a painter who exhibited regionally and nationally in universities, educational institutions and galleries and has participated in several group exhibits as well as one-person shows.
Artist’s Statement: “My personal work has always informed my teaching. My art work seeks to explore ideas of spiritual growth, about relationships and connections within a collective journey. Through my art I seek an intuitive understanding, a healing whole voice that acknowledges an unseen placement of hard issues within fragile perspectives.”
