• Every 26 seconds, a student in America gives up on school.
• High school dropouts are three times more likely than college graduates to be unemployed.
• High school dropouts are eight times more likely to be in jail or prison than high school graduates.
• Barely 50% of African American students and less than 66% of Hispanic students will graduate with their class.
• The 12 million students projected to drop out over the next decade will cost the nation $3 trillion.
HOW CITY YEAR CAN HELP
Teams of City Year corps members are deployed into under-served, New York City Schools to keep students in school and on track to graduate high school. Trained corps members collaborate with school administrators and staff to provide one-on-one tutoring, mentoring and afterschool support to make an impact for the students that are at-risk of dropping out. The City Year New York Associate Board is working to raise $100,000 through this event in order to sponsor a team of ten corps members to serve for an entire year in a school.
