Help Tommy McNamara Raise Funds for the Lung Cancer Research Foundation!

Hello,

This is Tommy McNamara, midfielder for the New England Revolution, and I am here to remind you all that November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

All of us have seen cancer impact our lives in one way or another, whether through family or friends. It is something you can never be totally prepared for. More than ever, I can appreciate the profound impact a cancer diagnosis can have on a family.

One year ago, my mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. It came as a real shock to her and our entire family. My mother is still young and otherwise completely healthy, and she has never smoked a day in her life. Fortunately, she is doing well now thanks in large part to her oncology team. Her treatment plan is working and she is able to lead a relatively normal life with manageable side effects.

After her diagnoses, I wanted to learn as much as possible about lung cancer so that I could be there for her during her fight. I was surprised to learn just how many people across the world are impacted by lung cancer every year, almost a quarter million people in the United States alone. And almost half of those cases can be fatal. The truth is, lung cancer can impact any family. Like my mom, almost 20 percent of all lung cancer diagnoses are for people who have never smoked.

Despite being a leading cause of death worldwide, lung cancer is still one of the lowest-funded areas of research. That is why this November, during Lung Cancer Awareness Month, I am asking all of you to help me raise funds for this important research. Also, help me to spread the word to raise awareness about the symptoms and early warning signs of lung cancer, as an early diagnosis can save your life, or the life of someone you love.

All proceeds from this auction will be donated to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation. We have signed memorabilia from my Revolution teammates, the New England Patriots, and from my friends throughout Major League Soccer. You can also bid on chances to attend Revolution home games, where I will get a chance to thank you in person during warmups, or to a Revolution training session where you can meet the rest of the team.

Thank you all for your support!
