Item Description

This antique quilt top was finished into a queen-size bedspread in 2006. The center pattern was created in Seattle, Washington sometime between 1901 and 1936 by Belle Thompson (Mrs. Charles P.) Leigh. Mrs. Leigh was born May 1860 in Covington, Kentucky, and moved to Nelson, Nebraska after her marriage. She moved to Seattle, Washington in 1901 and lived there until her death in 1955.

Overall size 92" x 98"

From the donor:

The center top pattern was mailed to my Aunt, Leigh Martin (Mrs. Robert M) Besancon with a note saying it came from her grandmother's house. The top came to me from my Aunt at her death and was in the original box mailed to her from Seattle in 1935. I arranged to have the pattern enlarged with modern cotton of the same style as the old center to make it into a queen-size bed cover. The finished quilt was created in 2006 by Carrie Zizza, a talented quilter who works in Amesbury.
