What is the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame?

The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame opened in June 1999 in Knoxville, Tennessee. It is the only facility of its kind dedicated to all levels of women's basketball.
Inside, the Hall is a bright fun-filled facility anchored with a 17-foot bronze sculpture by California artist Elizabeth McGueen, that exemplifies the Hall's mission to "honor the past, celebrate the present and promote the future" of women's basketball. The Hall is filled with multimedia presentations and numerous basketball artifacts, photographs, scrapbooks, medals, trophies and uniforms that bring the history of women's basketball to life.
In the same way that women's basketball touches the lives of many around the world, the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame offers special programming to improve the lives of those in the East Tennessee community and around the world.
Established in 2006, the NCAA Fast Break Education Program, presented by the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, encourages local youth to be healthy people and good citizens. The program is designed for students in kindergarten through fifth grade and stresses the importance of making healthy food choices, being active, and working as a team juxtaposed with the story of women who have succeeded against all odds with nothing more than their own hard work and determination as their rewards. Over 12,000 local students have participated in the program since its inception at the WBHOF.
The second program offered is the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Sportsmanship Program. Introduced two years ago, the program teaches coaches, parents, and young athletes how to be competitive with integrity, honor, and fairness. After the program, each participant signs a code of conduct pledging to be a good sport.
The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame has also created special Badge Workshop programming for the Girl Scouts of America focusing on eating healthy, being active, and working as a team.  The WBHOF also supports the local community by serving as a drop-off collection location for the US Marine Toys for Tots program, and supports the Tennessee State Summer Reading Program.  The WBHOF staff also participates in reading to a local inner-city school 2nd grade class.
The WBHOF works with young and not so young by presenting artifacts and basketball bingo to local senior groups.
The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame is much more than a museum. Our mission is to "Honor the Past, Celebrate the Present, and Promote the Future" of women's basketball. Through quality programming and outreach events, the WBHOF hopes to encourage all to be healthy, active, and successful.
