Our Time Theatre Company is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that uses the arts as an innovative and effective approach to improving the confidence and communication skills of youth who stutter. Since 2001, Our Time has provided its young participants with a safe, nurturing community founded on unconditional acceptance where youth who have been silenced by stuttering express themselves freely, without fear of judgment or ridicule. Youth build valuable friendships, develop vital communication skills, and experience momentous success, giving them the confidence to conquer their greatest challenges. Our Time members meet on Saturdays to learn acting, playwriting, songwriting, singing, and movement. They work together to create their own plays and music that they present in full-scale productions in Off-Broadway theaters. An additional opportunity exists for three to four senior members who are given the challenge of writing and directing their own one-act plays which are performed by professional actors. In the summer, the company travels and performs at national and international stuttering conferences. Camp Our Time incorporates the company's programs into a week-long camping experience that immerses young people who stutter, their young family members, and friends (ages 8-18) from across the country and internationally in the supportive environment that Our Time fosters year-round.
