Our Celebrating Women and Democracy Auction begins on July 19 to honor the very first Women’s Rights Convention which opened on July 19, 1848.  Held in Seneca Falls, New York, this important convention marks the first time that women’s right to vote was demanded.  Our auction ends on July 28 which is the birthday of Lucy Burns, a passionate suffragist who worked tirelessly to secure women’s right to vote.  Lucy Burns demonstrated her commitment throughout six arrests and imprisonments for picketing the White House on behalf of Woman Suffrage.

Women in the United States won the right to vote on August 26, 1920 with the passage of the 19th Amendment.  This anniversary date is celebrated annually as Women’s Equality Day on August 26.  This year’s 90th Anniversary offers a special opportunity to pay tribute to the grandmothers, mothers, and daughters, and their supporters, who worked for 72 long years to win the right for U.S. women to vote. Plan a celebration or just honor your ancestors. The NWHP has everything you need to celebrate Women's Equality Day!
