The Gichigami Express Sled Dog Race 2013 is now open. The auction will run from December 20, 2012 to January 8, 2013, with proceeds going to Gichigami Express Sled Dog Race in order to support the race and trails in Cook County. Auction items range from Northwoods Vacation getaways to sled dogs adventures and unforgetable experiences. The Gichigami Express Sled Dog Race is a new world-class level sled dog race that will connect 3 Cook County communities on the North Shore of Lake Superior in northeast Minnesota. The race will be held in 3 stages.

This 3 day event celebrates the rich heritage of mushing in the Minnesota Arrowhead Region. In the 1700’s, the Northwest Company’s “Winter Express” delivered mail, medicine and news by dog teams to the ‘winters’ camps. For this race, each community will host commemorative events honoring this colorful page of our history.
