The online portion of Jim Knippenberg Scholarship Fund Silent Auction is now open. The auction will run from March 23, 2012 to April 30, 2012, with the live event taking place at the Celestial on April 18, 2012. Proceeds go to The Jim Knippenberg Scholarship Fund in order to support University of Cincinnati Journalism students. Knippenberg — a 1964 graduate of Elder High School — passed away Nov. 13, 2009, at the age of 63. In his 37 years at The Cincinnati Enquirer, he served many diverse roles with a thoughtful, positive and often quirky approach: copy boy (in the 1960s), general news reporter, music writer, entertainment writer, entertainment editor, assistant magazine editor, assistant features editor and gossip columnist.

In honor of Jim’s many contributions to the lives and education of UC Journalism students, Enquirer readers and Cincinnati residents, the University of Cincinnati Journalism Program has partnered with Jim’s friends, family and colleagues to establish The Jim Knippenberg Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Scholarship.
Jim’s scholarship will support one deserving Journalism student per year with a $2,500 annual scholarship. When endowed, The Jim Knippenberg SPJ Scholarship will exist in perpetuity as a lasting memorial to one of our most prolific Journalism educators.
