The annual SOPAC gala on Saturday, May 30, will feature a performance of one of Broadway’s most acclaimed leading men, Brian Stokes Mitchell, in an evening of celebration capping the success of the 2014-15 season.  Arts in Education will be highlighted as SOPAC Board of Governor’s member Johanna Wright along with Fred Profeta and Paul Profeta are honored for their dedication to making arts opportunities available for young people in the South Orange/Maplewood school district.

Festivities begin at 5:30pm with cocktails, elaborate passed hors d'oeuvres and ample opportunity to meet-and-greet friends will be enjoyed by guests as they peruse the silent auction items and place bids on the most enticing.

Where Arts and Community Converge

South Orange Performing Arts Center’s stunning 3-story glass-enclosed atrium and expansive façade is the welcoming symbol that was envisioned by leaders in the community more than a decade ago. Opening its doors in 2006, SOPAC soon became a destination where area residents experience world-class music, theatre, dance and visual art in a modern, yet intimate space.  SOPAC was recently named “Favorite Small Performing Arts Center” in the Discover Jersey Arts People’s Choice Awards.

The 439-seat theatre and spectacular urban-style loft are used year-round for performances, rehearsals, classes and more  Singer-songwriters, Jazz and Blues artists, Dancers, theatre artists and more enjoy the boutique atmosphere that allows for relaxed interaction with audiences.

Jazz in the Loft and Blues in the Loft, presented by SOPAC, the Village of South Orange and the Baird, showcase extraordinary musicians who live and work in the region. It’s a diverse and exciting place where communities and artists thrive together.

The Herb & Milly Iris Gallery showcases regional visual artists in the second and third floor lobbies.

SOPAC is home to the Seton Hall University Arts Council performances, including the Classical Concert Series, Jazz ‘n the Hall performances and Seton Hall Theatre productions.

SOPAC partners with the Juilliard School of Music to present Juilliard @ SOPAC, a Sunday afternoon concert series featuring the brightest young stars from the acclaimed conservatory.

Theatre company-in-residence, Midtown Direct Rep, and dance company-in-residence, Lydia Johnson Dance, add to the community of artists that call SOPAC home.
