At SHC, we empower our students to change the world with their ideas. It all starts with asking, “Why?”   Club Monte Carlo’s Fund-a-Need will support SHC’s innovative science curriculum by providing the tools vital to fueling our students’ curiosity. In science, resources are consumed on a daily basis. From single-use pipettes to expensive physics classroom kits, we depend on the generosity of our donors to support the hands-on, experiential learning that is the hallmark of our science curriculum.   Assistant Principal for Academics Joan O’Neill says, “As teachers, it’s our job to be question architects and create experiences that inspire curiosity and spark student questions.” When students ask questions based on their natural thirst for knowledge, they are driven to discover a solution. Their curiosity and motivation lead to deeper comprehension and emotional connection to the course material, which deepens their overall academic experience.   Curiosity is key in the science classroom, where SHC instructors inspire our students to investigate how the world works. Instructor of Science Joe Murphy shares, “With an inquiry lab that stresses observations before instruction, students are exposed to the challenges that scientists and engineers typically see. They start with a question, then try to find answers.”   With your help, SHC will be able to provide the technology and supplies needed to remain on the forefront of 21st century science education, critical professional learning opportunities for our science faculty, and a state-of-the-art learning environment that reflects the rapidly-changing field of science.
