SAWIP is a unique program that is preparing a new generation of South African leaders who will fulfill Nelson Mandela’s vision for South Africa.Through a competitive application process, SAWIP selects emerging leaders from four universities who are poised to make a positive difference in building a sustainable and democratic South African society. The program includes community service, leadership development and professional experience in Washington, DC. As part of the 6-month leadership development program, students spend 6 weeks in DC over the summer. While here they live with a host family and gain work exposure in addition to interacting with professionals from the government, nonprofit and corporate sectors.
