The NASC Sports Legacy Fund awards an annual grant to an organization in need in the host city the NASC Sports Event Symposium.

Originally developed by the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission as an equipment donation program, the Sports Legacy Fund is a way for members of the sport tourism community to make a personal and lasting impact on sports programs and initiatives that serve the underprivileged throughout the country.

An emphasis is placed on donations to not-for profit organizations that provide individuals, particularly at-risk youth, veterans, or physically or intellectually disabled individuals, opportunities to participate in sport and encourage healthy lifestyles. This contribution is part of the legacy the NASC leaves in each host city.

Since 2009, the NASC Sports Legacy Fund has donated more than $90,000 to beneficiaries in the host cites of the NASC Sports Event Symposium.

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE
The NASC Sports Legacy Committee organizes a silent auction and raffle at the NASC Sports Event Symposium each year. Proceeds support the local beneficiary as well as the establishment of the NASC Sports Legacy Fund endowment. The committee also organizes a hands-on community service project at the Symposium. There are many ways to contribute:

1) Add a cash donation when you renew your membership or register for the NASC Symposium
2) Donate a silent auction or raffle item
3) Sponsor a silent auction/raffle table ($100 per table)
4) Bid on a silent auction item
5) Purchase raffle tickets ($5 for 20)
6) Volunteer for NASC Sports Legacy Fund Community Service Project

Auction and raffle winners will be announced on Wednesday, March 28, 2017. Winners need not be present to claim prize.

NASC Sports Legacy Fund Donates $27,000 to Mary Free Bed Wheelchair & Adaptive Sports

The NASC Sports Legacy Fund raised $27,000 to benefit the Mary Free Bed Wheelchair & Adaptive sportstarted wheelchair and adaptive sports programs more than 40 years ago with a single tennis team. The program has grown tremendously, and now approximately 400 children and 300 adults participate in a variety of organized team sports, clinics and camps every year. The Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports program is designed for anyone age 7 or older who cannot participate in traditional sports in the typical way, whether they were born with their disability or are challenged as a result of an injury, accident or illness.

More than 100 NASC Members Help Clean Up Washington Park in Inaugural NASC Sports Legacy Fund Community Service Project

More than one hundred NASC members volunteered to help clean up
Washington Park, a Milwaukee County park, at the 23rd NASC Symposium in Milwaukee in April.

Volunteers built picnic tables, picked up trash, and spread mulch. The work the volunteers did in a few hours would have taken staffers weeks to do.

“There’s hundreds of volunteer hours with this group, and it really helps us be able to get kind of a jump start because now the grass is starting to grow, and we’re going to need to be out here mowing, prepping the ball diamonds, soccer games, all that sort of thing so it really kind of gives us a head start,” said Guy Smith with Milwaukee County Parks.

The NASC Sports Legacy Committee chose Washington Park as the location for its first ever community service project based on its size, location, and the community it serves.

This whole group that we are here together with is all about giving back throughout our communities in our own parks and our own destinations, so when we come to a city like this we find a way to give back, and this is one of our ways to do that,” said volunteer Mike Anderson.
