NFL Alumni Foundation Mission Statement

NFL Alumni Foundation is a 501 (c) (3), non-profit organization composed of former professional football players, owners, coaches, administrators and cheerleaders who have joined together to support youth charities. Additionally, Associate Members play an integral role in supporting the charity and educational goals of the NFL Alumni.

The NFL Alumni advances its mission of CARING FOR KIDS through hundreds of fund raising, community-service and social events each year. The organization’s largest and most high-profile activities include: the Charity Golf Tour.

In 2007, a group of former players and associates formed the CT Chapter, naming former NY Giants running back Steve Thurlow as President. Since the nine years the chapter has been in operation, over $600,000 has been raised and the monies have been distributed to many deserving charities in the state of Connecticut, Westchester County and New York City. Some of those included were: CT Special Olympics, The First Tee of CT, The Umbrella Club, Circle of Care, Boys and Girls Club of Stamford and Greenwich, The Darien/Norwalk YWCA, ITP Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of CT, Kids in Crisis, Standing Tall, Joe Namath Football Camp, and the list goes on.

In addition to financial donations, the former players have donated valuable time by visiting area hospitals and distributing toys and joy to kids and their families. They have spent time at The Smilow Cancer Pediatric Unit at Yale New Haven Hospital, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, Yale New Haven’s Guilford Pediatric Unit, Stamford Hospital’s Pediatric Unit and many more hospitals are on the list for future visits.

The chapter has also provided scholarships for those less fortunate to attend Joe Namath’s Football Camp in Danbury, CT, donated Pillow Pets to the Stamford Police station so the officers can provide to children in domestic violence cases and car accidents, participated in “Punt, Pass and Kick” contests in and around the area, and soon the chapter will be helping with Flag Football, a new event added to The Special Olympics.

This has all been possible due to the generous support of the community via The NFL Alumni CT Chapter Golf Tournament. The chapter is embarking on its 10th Annual Connecticut Chapter Celebrity Classic, scheduled to take place, Monday, June 13th at The Country Club of Darien. It will be a fun-filled day of golf and charity starting with celebrity introductions, 18 holes of golf with entertainment at every hole, and a live and silent auction plus Lobster Bake.
