Check out Dan's Story!

Dan is a graduate of Port Resources' AIM Program (Achieving Independence in Maine-an independent living program supporting young adults).  Dan now lives in his own apartment and works as a crossing guard in Portland. Since the video was made, Dan has been honored as Crossing Guard of the Year in Portland and later for the entire state of Maine! He is now in the running for National Crossing Guard of the Year honors! Good Luck Dan!

We have come a long way since we opened our doors 40 years ago!  In 1979 we opened our first program, a group home on Emery Street in Portland, supporting six individuals moving out of the state institution, Pineland Center. Today, we manage a residential services program that supports 70 adults in 17 group homes across Cumberland and York counties. In addition, Port provides counseling services, a day program and independent and shared living programs to more than 400 people annually. Visit www.portresources.org to learn more.

 Bridging the Gap

In keeping with our mission, we work hard to ensure that those we serve are able to be part of their communities in meaningful ways, through educational and recreational opportunities, and we recognize that we cannot accomplish this without help.

Your support of this event helps bridge the gap for our clients between simply existing and having full and inclusive lives.

Being connected to and accepted by the community is so important. Social engagement with other members in the community breaks down stereotypes and biases about people with disabilities and leads to new connections and friendships.
